Tricks of the trade

If you happen to have several resistors on hand or are unable to find the impedance (resistance) value, different resistance value can be "created" by adding resistors in series or parallel.

Both of the configurations will provide different resistant and current rating values.

Example:

  • If your vehicle requires a 200ohm resister you can wire two 100ohm resistors in series to achieve a 200ohm resister, the current capabilities will stay the same as if they were on. However, in most cases using resistors in the data bus driving application the current rating requirement of the of the resistor is minimal and will not be a concern.

  • Lets take the same example with the 200 ohm resistant required to activate your vehicle door lock. You can take two 400ohm resistors and wire them in parallel to achieve a 200ohm resister. The current capacity will double.
